Overhaul and modernisation of a molasses transfer installation

Another major project for our team – winning a tender for the overhaul, modernisation and construction of new molasses transfer installations at a large chemical plant in Gdańsk. The scope of work covered a comprehensive replacement and expansion of key infrastructure elements to bring them up to current technological and safety requirements.

The works were carried out under demanding conditions – on an elevated pipe rack about 10 metres above ground level – using cranes, scaffolding and basket lifts, which required careful planning, coordination and strict compliance with occupational safety standards. From the moment the tender was awarded we knew the final deadline was only four weeks and directly linked to the date of commissioning molasses transfer to storage tanks. Fully aware of the time pressure, we organised the works professionally in a two-shift system. Thanks to the team’s commitment the project was completed one week ahead of schedule.

• Replacement of the steam-heating pipeline system, using 16Mo3 boiler steel applied in high-temperature installations.
• Modernisation and installation of 250 m of DN200 molasses transfer pipeline, with full preservation of process parameters.
• Replacement of control and measuring equipment and valves with new units.
• Overhaul of the condenser and reconfiguration of the molasses discharge pipeline so that each line is independently connected to a separate pump and equipped with bypasses allowing interconnection of the lines.
• Tightness tests and functional trials confirming correct operation of the entire system after modernisation.
• Complete thermal insulation with galvanised sheet cladding across the whole installation.
